Description

"Task 1 Literature review deliverable – A literature review report as one chapter of the final report. Task 2 Developing integrated climate participation program with extreme weather events deliverable – A program that can predict pavement temperature profile with the incorporation of predicted extreme weather events. Task 3 Developing integrated pavement performance prediction program deliverable – A pavement performance prediction program with the integration of pavement temperature profile prediction program. Task 4 Analysis of impact of heatwave on pavement resilience and safety deliverable – the analysis results of the heatwave impact on pavements which will be documented in the final report. Task 5 Final report and data transfer deliverable – final report, journal paper, conference presentation, and webinar."

Objective

"The objectives of this research study are: (1) to identify the suitable database and climate prediction tools that accurate the climate conditions with extreme weather events especially in the Midwest region, (2) to develop the pavement temperature profile program that can incorporate the predicted climate conditions and accommodate complicated thermal behaviors of the novel paving materials, (3) to develop an independent pavement performance prediction program using the predicted climate condition and the state-of-the-art mechanistic material models, and (4) to evaluate and quantify the impact of climate change on pavement resilience and safety and provide potential adaptation strategies."

Impacts/Benefits

"The research study will develop analysis tools for pavement thermal profile analysis and pavement performance analysis with the incorporation of predicted future climate data. The analysis modulus will be available for all pavement engineers. In addition, while the primary analysis will be focused on the Midwest region of the Unite States, the research methodology can be extended to other regions of the nation."
